This house, originally built in 1905, is located in an historic district. We were asked to create a master suite out of a small second floor bedroom and some unfinished attic space.

We stabilized the floor structure of the attic to allow for a second floor addition. We dismantled parts of the building, saving the original windows. We created a shed dormer to expand the size of the bedroom, and placed some of the salvaged windows in it. The other salvaged window went into the newly created bathroom. The new master bedroom also has views to the river.

One of our goals was to alter the house in such a way that the alterations were unnoticeable. The “before and after” photos of the façade illustrate how we accomplished that.
